The problem

Generic praise does not help anyone

Admissions officers and hiring managers read a lot of recommendation letters, and most say the same things: hard-working, a pleasure to teach, a valued team member. Those phrases tell the reader nothing they can use, because every letter contains them.

The letters that carry weight are specific. They say how the writer knows the candidate and for how long. They describe one or two concrete moments: the project the student rescued, the client the employee won back, the problem they solved that nobody else would touch. They compare the candidate with others the writer has known, honestly. And they connect all of that to what the candidate is applying for.

Busy professors, managers and mentors know this, but finding the time to write that letter for every person who asks is hard. That is where we help.

What you get

What each letter includes

  • An opening that states who is recommending whom, for what, and how strongly
  • How and for how long the recommender has known the candidate
  • Two or three specific examples drawn from the recommender's notes
  • A fair comparison with peers, where the recommender can honestly make one
  • A link between the candidate's strengths and the programme or job applied for
  • A closing offer to provide more information, with contact details
  • Formatted for letterhead, or for an online submission form's character limits

The rules

Whose letter it is

A recommendation letter is the recommender's statement, so the recommender must read it, agree with every word, change anything that is not accurate and sign or submit it themselves. We draft; they decide.

If you are an applicant and your recommender has asked you to prepare a draft, which is common, we can help you write one for them to edit. Please check the rules first. Some universities, programmes and employers do not allow applicants to see or draft their own letters, and applicants who waive their right to see letters may be expected not to write them. We do not write letters for anyone who has not agreed to recommend you, and we do not sign on anyone's behalf.

How it works

From notes to signed letter

1. Questionnaire

The recommender (or the applicant, with permission) shares the relationship, examples, the candidate's CV and the job or programme details.

2. Draft

We write a draft in the recommender's voice, typically within 2 business days.

3. Review

The recommender edits, corrects and requests changes until it says exactly what they mean.

4. Sign and send

The recommender signs and submits the final letter themselves.

Pricing

What a recommendation letter costs

Recommendation letters start at $30.00. Longer letters for graduate programmes, letters needing detailed research into a programme's criteria, and urgent deadlines may cost more. Recommenders writing several letters for different candidates can ask for a combined quote.

Questions

Questions about recommendation letters

Still unsure about something? Talk to a specialist — no script, no sales pitch.

It is when the named recommender genuinely supports the candidate, provides the substance, and reviews, approves and signs the final letter. Many busy professionals use help with drafting. It is not ethical to write a letter someone has not agreed to, or to submit it without their approval, and we will not do either.

Yes, if your recommender asked you to and your programme allows it. Check the application rules first, as some forbid applicants from drafting or seeing their letters. We help you write a specific, honest draft that your professor can then edit in their own words and submit.

How the recommender knows the candidate and for how long, two or three specific examples of their work or character, the candidate's CV, and details of the job, programme or award, including any criteria or questions the letter must address. The more specific the notes, the stronger the letter.

Usually one page for jobs and undergraduate admissions, and up to two pages for graduate programmes, fellowships and academic posts. Online forms often set character limits. We write to whatever limit applies, keeping the specific examples and cutting general praise first.

We can draft support or reference letters from a recommender who personally knows the applicant and agrees with the content. For immigration, requirements are set by the authority concerned, so the applicant's lawyer or adviser should confirm what each letter must contain.
