Proofreading Services
Professional Proofreading Services
You have read your document so many times that your eyes now see what you meant, not what you typed. Our proofreaders catch the typos, missing words and formatting slips that are left, before anyone else sees them.
- Two proofreaders review each project separately
- Tracked changes, so you can see every correction
- Typical turnaround of 2 business days for short documents
- Done by an in-house team, never subcontracted
The problem
Why you cannot proofread your own work
Writers are the worst proofreaders of their own text. You know what each sentence is supposed to say, so your brain fills in the missing "the", reads "form" as "from" and skips the doubled word at the line break. Spell checkers help, but they will happily accept a correctly spelled wrong word.
The errors that remain are small, but readers notice them. A typo in a proposal, a book's first page or a job application suggests carelessness, even when the work behind it is excellent.
A professional proofread is a final, systematic check by people who have never seen your text before. We go further and use two proofreaders working separately, because two independent passes catch more than one.
What we check
What a proofread covers
Proofreading is the last step, not a rewrite. If your document needs more than this, we will tell you before we start.
- Typos, misspellings and wrong words that spell checkers miss
- Punctuation, including apostrophes, commas and quotation marks
- Basic grammar errors such as subject-verb agreement and tense slips
- Consistency of spelling, capitalisation, hyphenation and number style
- Formatting: headings, lists, fonts, spacing and page numbers
- Cross-references, table and figure numbering, and the table of contents
- For typeset books: widows, orphans, bad breaks and running heads

How it works
How our proofreading works
1. Send your document
Share the file, what it is for, your deadline and any style guide. We confirm a fixed price.
2. Two separate passes
Two proofreaders each review the document independently, and their corrections are combined.
3. Review the changes
You receive the original and the proofread file with Track Changes on, plus any queries. Accept or reject as you wish.
4. Share or publish
Ask for any revisions, then send, submit or publish with confidence.
Honest limits
What proofreading will not do
Proofreading will not fix a confusing argument, a slow chapter or a report in the wrong order. If we see problems like that, we will mention them, and you can choose copy editing or a fuller edit instead. Paying for a proofread on a draft that needs editing usually means paying twice.
No proofread can promise a document with zero errors, especially on long texts. Two independent proofreaders get you as close as is practical, which is why we use them.
Pricing
What proofreading costs
Proofreading is quoted per document, based on length, complexity, format and deadline. Tell us what needs proofreading and we will tell you what it costs: a real figure rather than a range. Short documents are typically returned within 2 business days; full manuscripts, technical documents and very short deadlines are quoted on their own terms.

Corrections to spelling, typos, punctuation, basic grammar and formatting, plus consistency checks on things like capitalisation and number style. You get a tracked-changes file so you can see each correction. Rewording for style or restructuring is editing, which we offer separately if your document needs it.
Every proofreader misses something, and different people miss different things. Two independent passes catch more errors than one person reading twice. Their corrections are combined into a single tracked-changes file, so you only have one set of changes to review.
Short documents are typically returned within 2 business days. Long documents such as books or dissertations are quoted with their own delivery date. If you have an urgent deadline, tell us when you request a quote, and we will confirm whether we can meet it before you commit.
Yes. For PDFs and typeset proofs we mark corrections with comments directly on the pages, which your designer or typesetter can apply. Proofreading a typeset book also covers layout issues such as bad line breaks and inconsistent running heads. Marked-up proofs are returned in the same file you sent.
Yes, for spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting to your required style. We do not change the content or arguments. Check your institution's rules on outside proofreading before ordering; some require you to declare it. If your department has a style guide, send it and we will check against it.
