The problem

Expert books fail for different reasons than novels

A consultant's book, a practitioner's handbook or a researcher's monograph rarely fails because the author does not know the subject. It fails because the author knows it too well. Chapters assume knowledge the reader does not have, key ideas are buried in chapter seven, and the book reads like a report written for colleagues rather than a book written for the people who hire you or rely on your work.

The second problem is presentation. Tables, charts, case examples, references and pull quotes all need a layout that makes them easy to use. A nonfiction book with a crowded, inconsistent interior signals the opposite of expertise, no matter how good the content is.

Our publishing service is built around both problems: an editor who reads as your target reader, and a designer who treats your diagrams and data as part of the argument.

Who it is for

Books we publish for professionals

Authority books for consultants and coaches

Research turned into a general-audience book

Taking a thesis or body of research and restructuring it for readers outside your field, without losing accuracy.

What we handle

From manuscript to published book

Each project is scoped to what your manuscript needs. A typical nonfiction project covers:

  • A developmental read focused on structure, argument and reader level
  • Copyediting and proofreading, including consistency of terms, figures and citations
  • Interior design that handles tables, charts, footnotes and case boxes cleanly
  • A cover that signals the subject and the reader it is for
  • Advice on ISBNs, imprint name and which formats to release
  • Print-ready and ebook files prepared to platform specifications
  • Book description, author bio and category selection for online listings

How it works

Our publishing process

1. Assessment

We read the manuscript, ask who the book is for and what you want it to achieve, and send a scope and quote.

2. Editing

Structural notes first, then line and copy edits. You approve every change, so the book stays in your voice.

3. Design

Cover concepts and an interior sample before the full layout, so design decisions are agreed early.

4. Release

Final proofs, file checks against platform requirements, listing copy and publication in the formats you chose.

Honest limits

What self-publishing can and cannot do for an academic book

If your goal is a peer-reviewed monograph for tenure or a research assessment, a university press or academic publisher is usually the right route, and we are not a substitute for peer review. What we can do is edit and prepare the manuscript before you submit it.

If your goal is reach, speed and control, such as a practitioner audience, a course text you assign yourself, or a book that supports your consulting, self-publishing is often the better fit. You choose the price, the formats and the timing, and the book can be updated when your field moves on.

Pricing

How a publishing project is priced

Professional and research books vary too much for one price to be useful. A 30,000-word guide with no figures is a different job from a 90,000-word book with 60 tables. We quote from the manuscript itself: word count, the depth of editing needed, the number of figures and tables, and the formats you want to release.

You receive a written scope listing exactly what is included before any work starts. If you only need part of the process, such as editing and layout for a book you will publish yourself, we quote for that part alone.

Questions

Questions about publishing services

Still unsure about something? Talk to a specialist — no script, no sales pitch.

Yes, but it usually needs restructuring first. A thesis is written to prove a point to examiners; a book is written to be useful to readers. We help you cut the literature review down, lead with findings and add examples, then edit and design it for publication. If you want an academic press, we can prepare the manuscript for submission instead.

Not always. Platforms like Amazon KDP offer a free ISBN, but it can only be used on KDP and lists the imprint as "Independently published." If you want your own imprint name on the listing, or plan to distribute widely, buying your own ISBNs is usually worth it. We explain the options for your country and plans.

It should. Our editors work with tracked changes and comments, so you see and approve every edit. The aim is to make your expertise easier to follow, not to replace your phrasing with ours. Technical terms you rely on are kept, and we flag any change that might alter meaning.

Yes. We design tables and figures as part of the interior layout, check that numbering and references are consistent, and redraw simple diagrams where the original is low resolution. Complex technical illustrations are quoted separately once we see them. You see every figure in place in the proofs before release.

Each book is quoted with its own timeline, because editing depth and the number of figures drive the schedule. A clean, short manuscript moves much faster than a long book that needs structural work. We give you a schedule with the quote and tell you which stages depend on your review time.

We recommend that you publish through accounts and ISBNs in your own name, so the listings, sales data and royalties stay with you. Ask us to confirm the ownership terms for your project in writing before you start. That way you can update, reprice or move the book later without asking anyone for permission.
