Business Book Publishing Services

A business book has two jobs: teach the reader something useful, and show them how you think. We help consultants, founders and executives turn what they know into a focused book, then edit, design and publish it.

  • Writers, editors and designers in-house
  • Ghostwriting from interviews, or editing your draft
  • Revisions included until the brief is met
  • Client details and frameworks kept confidential

The problem

Most business books try to say everything

Experts know a lot, and that is the problem. The first draft of a business book often tries to fit an entire career into one volume: every lesson, every client story, every opinion about the industry. The reader finishes it and cannot say what the book was about.

The business books people recommend to colleagues usually make one argument and defend it well. A clear promise in the title, a framework or method the reader can apply, and stories and evidence that prove it works. Everything else goes into the next book, a talk or a blog post.

Our first piece of work is helping you find that argument. The writing gets easier, and better, once it is settled.

Book types

Business books we work on

Method and framework books

Your process, named and broken into steps a reader can follow. Common for consultants and coaches whose book supports their client work.

Founder and company stories

How a business was built, told with the lessons drawn out. Works for founders, family businesses and anniversary editions.

Leadership and management

What you have learned about leading people and teams, grounded in specific situations rather than general advice.

Industry and specialist guides

Practical books for a defined professional audience, such as finance, property, healthcare or technology, where accuracy matters more than flair.

Writing it

Ghostwriting for busy experts

Most of our business authors do not have time to write a book, and do not need to. The usual route is a series of recorded interviews in which you explain your ideas the way you would to a client. A writer turns those conversations into chapters, keeping your terms, your examples and your way of making a point. You review and correct each chapter as it arrives.

Client stories need care. We anonymise or composite case studies where needed, and we will ask you to confirm that you are free to use any named examples, figures or quotations from clients and colleagues.

If you would rather write it yourself, we can coach the outline, edit chapters as you finish them, and handle the production.

What we check

What a business book edit looks for

  • A title and subtitle that state the reader's problem and the book's promise
  • One central idea, stated early, that every chapter supports
  • Chapters that end with something the reader can do, not only something to think about
  • Claims backed by data, sources or real examples, with sources cited
  • Jargon either explained or removed, depending on the audience
  • Client stories cleared for use or properly anonymised
  • Charts and diagrams that are readable in print and on an ebook reader
  • A conclusion and back matter that tell the reader what to do next

Length and use

Length, formats and what the book is for

Business books are usually shorter than novels; many fall somewhere around 40,000 to 80,000 words. Busy readers prefer a book that makes its point and stops. A short, focused book also costs less to produce and is easier to give away at events.

Think about how the book will be used before choosing formats. If you plan to hand copies to prospects or sell them after talks, a well-made paperback matters. If your readers are executives who commute, an ebook and an audiobook may reach more of them. We can prepare print and ebook editions, and the files can be adapted for audio.

A book can support your reputation and your business, but it is not a lead machine on its own. We will help you plan how it fits with your website, speaking and content rather than promise outcomes it cannot deliver alone.

How it works

From idea to published book

1. Positioning session

Who the reader is, the problem the book solves and the argument it makes. Fixed quote and schedule follow.

2. Outline

A chapter-by-chapter plan agreed with you before writing starts.

3. Interviews and drafting

Chapters written in batches for your review, or your own chapters edited.

4. Design and publishing

Cover, diagrams, interior layout and publishing in the formats you need.

Questions

Questions about business book publishing

Still unsure about something? Talk to a specialist — no script, no sales pitch.

Less than writing it yourself, but not none. Expect a positioning session, a series of recorded interviews spread over several weeks, and time to review each chapter. The book will only be as good as the ideas and examples you bring, so the interviews are the part to protect in your calendar.

That is the point of working from interviews. Your writer uses your phrases, your examples and the way you explain things to clients. You read every chapter and anything that does not sound like you gets changed before the book moves on.

Yes, with care. Named examples usually need the client's agreement, and confidential figures should stay out unless you have permission. Where that is not possible, we anonymise the story or combine details from several clients so the lesson survives without exposing anyone.

Many business authors do, because it gives them control over timing, design and how they use the book, such as bulk copies for events. Traditional publishing can bring wider bookstore reach but takes longer and involves giving up some control. We can explain the trade-offs for your situation.

Yes. We redraw diagrams so they are clear in print and on ebook screens, and we can design worksheets or checklists as back matter or as a separate download you offer readers. A downloadable worksheet also gives readers a reason to visit your website, which is useful if the book supports a consulting or training business.

We offer book marketing as a separate service, including descriptions, launch planning and author website work. For business books, the most effective promotion is often what you already do: speaking, client work and your own content, so we plan around those.
